Asamoah Gyan has been named on the shortlist for the 2010 African Footballer of the Year award.

The 25-year-old starred for Ghana in the World Cup in South Africa this summer, where they reached the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately for Gyan, he missed a last minute penalty that would have secured the Black Stars a place in the semi-finals.

However, this has not stopped him from being named on the list as he has impressed in the Premier League since signing from Rennes.

Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are also on the list, as is Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.

The prestigious list is completed by Malian international Seydou Keita, who is part of the all-conquering Barcelona team.

On 11th December this five-man list will be reduced to three, with the winner being named on 20th December at a ceremony in Cairo.

The award will be decided by the captains and coaches of the 53 countries in Africa, who will vote for the winner.

Eto'o is the favourite to win after claiming the UEFA Champions League and Serie A titles with Inter Milan, while also setting a new goalscoring record with Cameroon in the African Nations Cup.
