Manchester City defender Kolo Toure suffered from a 'recognised medical condition' in which he became 'obsessed' with a 'misplaced perception that he was fat', an English FA report has revealved.
According to The Guardian, Toure took water tablets in a desperate attempt to 'reduce the size and appearance of his belly'.
The 30-year-old tested positive to a prohibited substance in May and was subsequently banned for six months.
It is not the first time an athlete has failed a drugs test and offered personal weight issues as an excuse.
Shane Warne was famously suspended from cricket for 12 months in 2003 after testing positive to a banned diuretic, which he described as a fluid tablet given by his mother to "get rid of a double chin".
