Iraqi football elections delayed until Saturday (AP)

BAGHDAD (AP)—Iraqi Football Association officials say they are delaying elections slated for Thursday until Saturday following the death of a longtime Iraqi club manager.

Najeh Hamoud, the deputy secretary of the IFA, told The Associated Press on Wednesday about the delay.

He and other Iraqi football officials said the date was changed because many of the federation members would be attending funeral services on Thursday for a club manager from the northern province of Dohuk who died Tuesday.

Hamoud said FIFA, football’s international governing body, approved the date change.

FIFA did not respond to requests for comment.

This is the second time the elections have been delayed this month.
