Marcel Desailly has been confirmed as one of five men short-listed for the Ghana job.
The Black Stars are looking for a new coach after Serbian Milovan Rajevac rejected a contract extension after leading them to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in the summer.
Desailly, a World Cup winner with France, was born in Ghana and he is now keen to return to his homeland to take charge of the national side.
Since retiring from playing in 2006, the 42-year-old has worked as a media pundit and is yet to take on a coaching role.
Desailly has been named in contention for the job alongside Serb Goran Stevanovic, Humberto Coelho of Portugal, former Turkey assistant Can Vanli, and Ghana-based Herbert Addo.
Stevanovic is currently coach of Partizan Belgrade, whilst Coelho is without a job since being sacked by Tunisia last year.
Vanli is currently in charge of Maldivian club VN Sports, whilst Addo is with Black Stars.
The five candidates are expected to be interviewed in the next two weeks with an appointment due in mid-December.
