Steven Pienaar has given Tottenham a fresh concern after picking up a knee problem while on international duty.

The 29-year-old midfielder suffered the injury while going into a challenge during a South Africa training session ahead of their match against Egypt on Sunday.

Pienaar is already carrying a groin problem which may require surgery next week and Spurs will hope he returns to fitness before next season.

He has still not been ruled out of the clash with Egypt and will travel to Cairo with the rest of Pitso Mosimane's squad.

Mosimane said: "He's struggling. I will wait until the last moment to take the decision, even if it's on the day of the match."

Victory for Bafana Bafana would keep them on course for next year's Cup of Nations and almost certainly end three-time defending African champions Egypt's chances of qualifying.
