Three Premier League-based players have been nominated for the African Footballer of the Year award.

The African Confederation has named 10 players including Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, as well as Sunderland's Asamoah Gyan.

Inter Milan forward Samuel Eto'o is the favourite to win the award for the fourth time in his career, following an outstanding campaign for the Nerazzurri as well as a World Cup appearance for Cameroon.

Eto'o is likely to be pushed all the way by Drogba, though, as the Ivorian had an excellent season for Chelsea last term and also played in South Africa in the summer.

Meanwhile, Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra has also been nominated after a fine year, and ex-Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng makes the list.

A number of big names have been left out of the shortlist, including Manchester City duo Emmanuel Adebayor and Yaya Toure, while Michael Essien and Gervinho are also missing.
